Power Electronics
VFDs and Inverters
Higher reliability – Smaller size
Due to the high operating speeds of permanent magnet machines the voltage and frequency outputs (in the case of a generator) and inputs (in the case of a motor) will vary, hence DDS power electronics converters and inverters must be utilized. These are very similar to existing Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) that are currently utilized in the industry but with fewer parts because the rotor does not have to be energized. In a permanent magnet machine continuous excitement is provided by the magnets simplifying the controls.
The design features and options of DDS drives include:
- Compact size
- Four quadrant electronics (bi-directional)
- Water or air cooled
- Sensorless vector control
- No isolation transformer necessary to control common made voltages or meet IEEEE519
- Quiet operation
- Redundant controls & cooling system pumps
- N+1 power module redundancy
- Hot swappable, roll out modules
- Optimized for DDS’ permanent magnet machines
