Electrification of Older Gas Turbines (Retrofit)
With today’s economics it is difficult to justify operating a gas turbine with efficiencies below 35%. Most of these gas turbines with low efficiencies are the older gas turbines installed mostly in the 70’s and 80’s for various applications as a mechanical prime movers for compressors and pumps. In addition to low operating efficiencies, these gas turbines require a high level of maintenance and need constant improvements to become environmentally compliant.
DDS offers a complete one stop system level retrofit option that replaces the gas turbine with a high speed electrical motor without interrupting operation and with a return on investment of around 2 years. The retrofit advantages include:
- Eliminates emissions
- Increases efficiency & reliability
- Lowers maintenance and down time
- Provides a wider range of operation
- Latest PLC controls & monitoring systems
- Simple & quick swap of electrified skid without changing existing mounting and footprint
- Reduces noise
- Increase up to 3,000HP by restaging the compressor
Some of the tasks performed by DDS and its partners include:
- Complete skid refurbishment to include the following:
- Skid will be striped and fitted with new wiring and stainless steel piping
- Compressor will be restaged to meet customer’s requirements
- Refurbishment of the compressor with new bearings and all new seals
- New PLC controls with necessary new electronic valves and sensors
- New oil pump and oil coolers
- The skid will be shop tested to full speed – customer witness welcome
- The skids will be exchanged on site by professional crew – assumed to be two week effort
- Minimum down time
- Lower risk for the operator
