Direct Drive Systems Technology Demonstrations

California, USA - 2/1/2007 - California, USA. – February 2007 - Direct Drive Systems (DDS) conducted technology demonstrations at their facilities in Cerritos, California for major Oil & Gas firms, centrifugal compressor and gas turbine OEMs and Pipeline end-users in late 06 and early 07. These demonstrations took place all throughout December and January and included the following subjects:

• Permanent Magnet Motoring & Generating Machines
• Back to Back 1.2MW @ 22,500 rpm demonstration
• High efficiency even at 50% turn down conditions (over 97%)
• Bi-directional Motoring & Generating Power Electronics
• Magnetic Bearing and Magnetic Bearing Controller Technology
• Solid Rotor Construction and Permanent Magnet Containment Technology
• Fully Instrumented Test Stand
• System level integration capabilities

About Direct Drive Systems
DDS’ products include a line of high-speed, high-power motors, generators, magnetic bearings and power electronics that are significantly more efficient and cost competitive with conventional machines and gearboxes. DDS’ systems are a new phase in electrical rotating equipment technology and are designed for turbo machinery motoring and generating applications. DDS’ technology allows its electrical machines to rotate at speed matching the compressor and gas turbine shaft speeds up thereby eliminating gear boxes and lube oil systems. Additionally DDS machines are smaller than 20% the size and weight of conventional machines resulting in significantly smaller and lighter turbo equipment skids. Furthermore, DDS’ permanent magnet high speed machines have the capability to be cooled by the process gas and is one of the only machines available today that can operate in a sour gas environment. Our first system the “Frame Two” is commercially available to industry and is capable of reaching 2.0 MW @22,500 RPM. Q3 of this year Frame 8 machine will be introduced to the market place where it is capable of 8MW output while operating at 15,000rpm.
